Risen Lord, Hear Our Prayer

My experiences as a music minister over the years have shown me that sometimes my most profound prayer experiences occur in the subtlest of ways and the most heartfelt inspirations come at the most overwhelming times. “Risen Lord” was born out of the desire to express the joy of our parish communal prayer during the Easter liturgies of 1994, while also being my words of invocation during my father’s battle with terminal cancer. Though he went home to God a week later, I do believe that my prayers for peace for my family and myself were answered.

This prayer of petition is beautifully used during the Easter Season, of course, during the prayers of the faithful in the Mass. It can also add beauty and song to any petition time, during a prayer service, or to illustrate for a catechumen the confidence that the Resurrection gives us, as we trust in God on the journey of life.
