Walking through the neighborhood and begging for a new song, God gave me this refrain. It wasn’t so much that God was helping me to crank out new material, but more of a gentle invitation to clean out my heart and make room for God…which, in turn would make room for new songs. Funny how God is. This is my interpretation of Psalm 51.
This song speaks to the catechumen of the journey out of slavery into freedom, God’s unconditional love which forgives and cleanses us as we present ourselves in humility before God. It is a beautiful accompaniment to Ash Wednesday celebrations, throughout Lent and at reconciliation services. Even in ordinary time, such as 4A and 16A the song speaks to our need for God to make us whiter than snow.
