I was afraid to say, “Here…Here I am,” somehow afraid to surrender, yet again, to God. Then came this song, inspired by the text of the readings from the 2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time. The song responds to my fear… like a spiritual sword to slay a demon of sorts. The more I sing it, the more I know that it is the whole of my life that I must give over: mind, body, spirit, soul, and heart. And the more I sing this song, the more I know that the process will last until my dying day. Embracing that is a fine thing.
This song is highly appropriate for the 2nd Sunday of Ordinary Time in Cycle B. The theme is obedience to the call and cooperation with God’s grace. It is also useful and appropriate when used at the Feast of the Birth of John the Baptist, or any time when the focus is God’s call to move forward.
