Every Nation on Earth
-
Psalm 72, considered a royal psalm, was likely composed for the accession of a king to the throne. We sing this psalm on the feast of the Epiphany to celebrate that even kings bow down to the Servant King, Jesus Christ. It reveals the vast expanse of the Lord’s dominion, not only over land and sea, but also over nations. This song calls out to all in leadership to trust in the ways of the Lord, and to use loving judgment in all matters of leadership.
In addition to the feast of the Epiphany, this piece could be used as a hymn of praise on the Solemnity of Christ the King, for interfaith services and celebrations whose themes reflect unity, justice, praise and faithfulness to God.
